Avalon Women's Centres

Avalon

Avalon Recovery Society is a non-profit Society that operates two drop-in centres, one in Vancouver and one on the North Shore.

Avalon is dedicated to helping women in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The women attending Avalon represent a true cross-section of our society and come to us from throughout the Lower Mainland.

There is no charge for women to attend Avalon and, after 18 years in operation, Avalon continues to be a low-profile, grassroots organization.

The concept of the Avalon Women’s Drop-In Centres is a gift from the two founders Helen Burnham and Virginia Giles. Both recovering alcoholics, they recognized the need for women to have a safe, attractive place to hold twelve-step meetings, to meet other women with similar problems and to begin their individual journeys of recovery.

Avalon provides free child minding at the noon hour meetings so Moms can devote an hour or so to themselves, and to their recovery.
